Abstract
Our modern urban power system is experiencing the Third Energy Revolution that features integration of high penetration of renewables, e.g. wind and solar. However, renewable generation is known to be intermittent and stochastic that cannot match the electricity demand well. This “mismatch” may significantly deteriorate the security operation of power systems. Widely installing energy storage systems and adopting transportation electrification with high penetration of electric vehicles, are possible solutions; but are extremely expensive. This talk discusses how existing & cheap demand-side resources, including various kinds of transportation electrification infrastructure, can be utilized as generalized storage systems to balance the electricity supply and demand, which will further promote the integration of renewables and decarbonize our future smart cities.
Abstract
Wind plants can increase annual energy production with advanced control algorithms by coordinating the operating points of individual turbine controllers across the farm. It remains a challenge to achieve performance improvements in practice because of the difficulty of utilizing models that capture pertinent complex aerodynamic phenomena while remaining amenable to control design. We formulate a multistage stochastic optimal control problem for wind farm power maximization and show that it can be solved analytically via dynamic programming. In this way, the renewable energy operation framework could enable efficient integration of uncertainties in the low carbon power system. In particular, the model incorporates state- and input-dependent multiplicative noise whose distributions capture stochastic wind fluctuations. The optimal control policies and value functions explicitly incorporate the moments of these distributions, establishing a connection between wind flow data and optimal feedback control.

Topic
Igniting the Power of Computer Audition for Healthcare: An Overview
What is good research?
What is SCI, EI, h-index, citation, conference and journal?
How to find the scholar information and follow their research?
How to write academic paper?
How to write research proposal?
How to do research at the beginning stage?
An example novel field: computer audition for healthcare
Topic
This topic is about the writing and standardization of research papers in science and technologies, especially for the students who haven’t written a paper yet. Three questions will be mainly discussed in this webinar:
What is an academic paper? I will introduce all the sections of an academic paper, including the paper’s title, authors, abstract, introduction, main body, case study, conclusion, and reference.
How to write a good paper? I will share some ideas about academic writing on sentences, equations, tables, and figures. Clear sentences and beautiful figures can reduce the paper’s understanding difficulty and increase acceptance opportunity.
What tools can we use to improve work efficiency? I will share some useful software for searching literature, paper’s auto-typesetting, looking up English words and grammars, drawing graphs, and even the headache color matching.
Finally, some time will be reserved for Q&A. Welcome to join us!
